Hi guys . Finnally! I just finished my vlog in Chiang Rai. My stories in Chiang Rai will separated in two part. So, enjoy the first vlog and wait for the next part ! . The vlog in the first part tells about my trip to from Indonesia to Chiang Rai. Then, the vlog tells about our first day in Chiang Rai and the activity with the Red Cross Camp Damrongratsongkroh School. . Enjoy the video! We have to leaving Chiang Rai. One by one all delegates back to their hometown. But for me, Salma, Tias, and Rafiqa, we will stay in Bangkok for 4 days because any people said that "You are not going to Thailand if you didn't stay in Bangkok". But, we still love Chiang Rai Our flight to Bangkok was at 10 AM. When we were check in, there was a problem in Rafiqa luggage. we tried to help her and she can passed the check in. Thank you Mrs. Nok for all your help in Chiang Rai. Hope to see you again.
. We arrived at Bangkok at 12..35 PM. and we went to the hostel by taxi. . and here is my last blog to tell about my experiences in SEA Teacher Project. I hope it will be your references for anyone who will take a part in next SEA Teacher Project. You can read my story about our trip in Bangkok on other part of this blog ! . The last i said, for anyone who placed in CRRU especially Damrongratsongkroh School, please contact me :D . Thank You ขอบคุณครับ Terima Kasih Hatur Nuhun. In the last day in Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, we met President of CRRU to gave a last speech for us. He hopes that our relationship will be continue after this project end. . He gave us souvenir and certificate from CRRU. . Thank you Chiang Rai Rajabhat University for your hospitality and the final stage of this project is presentation in CRRU. We have to tell what we get during this project, and tell about condition when we were teaching, tell about general information of the school, and curriculum. Damrongratsongkroh School team did the presentation very well.
After giving a last speech in Damrong. Mrs. Sunny picked us up to the CRRU. We have to say good bye to Mrs. Sunny, and hope we will meet again. Thank you for always helping us 4 weeks in Chiang Rai. She is like our parents in Chiang Rai. . We met again with anoter delegates in CRRU, and we were going to the class to met with CRRU students. At the class, we just sharing each other. We talk about Thailand, Indonesia, and Philiphines. They are very nice. And the girls is so pretty :D In the afternoon. We have a new buddy. We introduced ourselves. And then we played a game and finally we have to find our buddy with the clue on the paper. My buddy is Topfee. He is a traveller. He has been travelling to Singapore alone, and his target for this year is he wants to travel to Hongkong! why not to Indonesia? hahaha..
. He is nice person and speak english very well. I have done with my luggage to go to the CRRU. But, before the school pick us up to the CRRU, we have a last speech at the school.
. I want to show them that i prove my Thai speaking skills. I want to make a speech about 30 second in Thai. . We have a speech one by one in front of students and teachers. And the school director gave us a souvenir. We are very happy to be here. But, we only have 4 weeks in Damrong, and here is the last day i am in Damrongratsongkroh School. . Last night, we have a dinner with Kru Pim and his wife, Kru Ooh. They picked us up to the halal restaurant in Chiang Rai. They are very kind people, and hardworker. We talk each other, told our family in Indonesia, education system, and opportunity to be a professional teacher in Damrongratsongkroh School. Thank you Kru Pim and Kru Ooh, wish you all the best. . At the morning, we were getting late. The activity in the last day in Damrong was same like before, teaching. I teach 3 classes in my last day in Damrongratsongkroh School. I took a picture with all Social Studies teachers. One by one and together. at 4 PM, Kru Pim asked me to have a meeting near by the teacher office. I was shocked that all social studies teachers was there and i have to make a last speech for the project, for the experiences, and for the teachers.
. I was very happy to met all social studies teachers. It looks i have a new family in Damrong School. They all are kind teachers, hardworker teachers, and students will be success because of them. I hope i can give a sweet memory for the school and for the teachers. I hope they will always remember me, like i remember them. and i hope i will have a chance to meet them again soon. . I write my thai name and my real name on the table as a sign that i have been a teacher in Damrongratsongkroh School. . Then, Kru Sunny asked us to make a last speech in the school tomorrow. And she will picked us up at night for last dinner. Governance subject. A things that made me nervous to teaching governance subject was about the students. I prepared material very well, but in this subject i will talk more than ASEAN subject. So, i was afraid that the students didn't got what i said.
. But i thoguht, i did it. . At the first class in room 235 Math and Science program, i saw when the observation, the students in this room was not interested with governance subject. I was afraid that they will do the same thing like in observe. My first class didn't going very well, but it was a nice experience for the next class. . In the next class, i can control the students. My lesson plan going very well, the students understood and they can answered my question randomly. . A thing that i've learned from the teaching practice in here is i have to always make sure that they understand. Even thought they can't speak english very well, the point of the teaching is communication. So, i have to adaptable, learn their language, speak slowly, and always make yourself as a center attention. . The picture was my last class teaching governance subject. I was very happy in the class because some students understand and they can told to their friend about the material in Thai language. So, all of them can understood. After have a day trip with mrs. Sunny, i have to prepare for the lesson on monday. Different subject than last week. For the next monday, i will teach governance, and the topic was about comparation between indonesian governance and thailand governance.
. For me, this subject was little bit harder than ASEAN subject because i don't have any items to showed to the students, and i thought it's hard to explain governance system by video or picture. I have to explain to the students. . The first one is i have to prepare the material. For Indonesian government system, i can find material easily and i understand about indonesian government system. But, it was hard for me to find material for Thailand government system. I can find on google. But, i was confused because i saw the difference in any references. Finally, i asked to my father cousins who works at Indonesian Embassy in Thailand. They told me about Thailand government system. I got the point and understood what google meant. . The next step was about method. Actually, i dont want to talk too much. But i thought i have to take a risk. I want to explain for 20 minutes, and next 10 minutes, the students has to tell to their friend about the material. Because, at the beginning, i create a couple group that one person will be Indonesian team, and one person will be Thailand team. At the end, i will give a question randomly. . So, let's see what happen on monday! After teaching, i always stayed in the Teacher Office. In Damrongratsongkroh School, teacher office were separated per each department. Department Social Studies has their own office, Department of Math, etc.
. In department of social studies, they has 17 teachers. All teachers was very kind and friendly. They always offered me to eat the food on the table, always tried to talked to me even they can't speak english. And one teacher cam greet me with indonesian language, because she is ASEAN subject teacher. . Stay in Social Studies office felt like i have a new home. Kru Boo, teacher who sat behind my seat, always help me anything in Damrong. Her english were better than other teacher. Thank you kru Boo #14 SEA Teacher Project 5th Batch: Golden Triangle, Mae Sai, Karen Long Neck People, and Blue Temple2/25/2018 On the third weeks, we have a trip with Mrs. Sunny to some place that little bit far from Chiang Rai. But, the place is one of many things to do arround Chiang Rai. Our friend, Carina joined with us to have a trip with Mrs. Sunny. Mrs. Sunny picked us up at 9 morning. The first stop was Golden Triangle. This place is famous for tourist because we can see 3 countries in one place with bordered by a river. Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. At Golden Triangle, there was a monument that popular on Instagram. So, i wasn't forget to taking a picture there. We brought some souvenir to take to Indonesia The second stop was Mae Sai. Actually, i don't know much about Mae Sai. I never searched before. When we arrived at mae sai arround 20 minutes from Golden Triangle, i felt a great atmosphere. There has a huge market, sells souvenir, food, and clothes. I saw a food that i knew from the thai movie. The taste was good. . And then, Mae Sai is a border area between Thailand and Myanmar. You can go to Myanmar from Thailand by car. But, we just walk into the border and taking picture at the monument. The third place is Mae Fah Luang Garden. In the Past, the Princess of Thailand used to stay in Chiang Rai, at the beautiful house. We can go inside the house, but we didn't take picture there. We can imagine how the princess life in the beautiful palace. The last place was Blue Temple. Located near by the center of Chiang Rai. All blues.
In the second day, third day, until fourth day teaching. I was very enjoyed. The student understood, and sometimes i made a joke to built interest to me. . And in every beginning of the lesson. I always gave student soivenir from Indonesia who can answered my question. It was for stimulate to other student. Even though they didn't speak english very well, i want to make them bravely to speak up in english. In explaining about Indonesian cultures, i showed some pictures and videos to make them understand. So, i don't need to talk too much because i worried thatt they wouldn't understood. And the response was positive. . In explaining Thailand cultures. I want to change a position. I want the students to explain me about Thailand cultures. I just showed them a pictures and i let them to explain to me. . One thing that made me surprise is they know about Angklung, traditional music from Indonesia. There are angklung in Thailand, and i need to searh more about it on internet. Because, i thought angklung is purely from Indonesia and recognized by UNESCO. Fortunately, i have Kru Cat in the class. She always helped me when the students didn't get what i said. They explain again to the students in Thai.
. and yeah, i tried to speak Thai in the class. The basic sentence that i usually used in the class like "Do you understand" or "any questions?". But, when i said "any questions?" in Thai, some students confused and laughing to me. I thought something wrong in my pronounciation. As a muslim, we have to choose the right food to eat. We dont eat pork and some kind of animal. So, living in Thailand is a challange for me to eat the right food for muslim. Its called "halal" food.
. Not easy to find halal food in Thailand, especially find a restaurant who has halal sign in the restaurant. We have to ask them that we can't eat pork. . Fortunately, they have halal food near by Damrong School. Mrs. Sunny took us to the halal food in the first day in Damrong. . That is noodles and meatball. The seller are muslim, so i can trust them that the food is halal. The taste was delicious. "aroi maa khab" . We have lunch at that restaurant every day, because it was halal and near by the school. The price was cheap, only 40 Baht. The main point of this project comes: Time for teaching strated. . I was nervous. I come to the school earlier, bought a bread for breakfast, and ask Kru Pim to checked my power point. I went to the class 10 minutes before the lesson started. I wait Kru Cat comes outside the class. and here we go! The next class was Mattayomsuska 4 France program. In this class, i can control the class, and some students can speak english and they are very interactive. The second class was better.
. and the third class, i was very enjoyed. I was very happy for the first day teaching in Damrong. The students was very nice, and i thought i can solve the language problems. Another challange for muslim living in muslim minority is to pray jumat. . Because, on friday, every man have to go to the mosque for pray. One of the worried things living in Thailand is hard to find mosque. . Fortunatelly, teachers in Damrong understood about the situation. He gave me free time in every friday afternoon. So, i can go to the mosque. And again, i was very lucky to be placed in Damrong, I just walk arround 10 minutes to get the mosque. Not all school located near by the mosque. The mosque called Darul Aman Mosque. The biggest mosque in Chiang Rai. Located in the middle heart of Chiang Rai.
. I saw a lot of chinese muslim there, malay, an middle east. I didn't find Indonesian muslim. There are a muslim community arround the mosque. After class observation, i have to prepare about the lesson in the class. Kru Pim told me that i will teach in two subject: ASEAN subject and Governance subject. In the first week teaching, i will teach ASEAN subject, and Governance subject for the next week. Total, i have 13 period of teaching.
. In ASEAN subject, i have to teach about comparation between Indonesian culture and Thailand culture. In creating lesson plan, i have to make sure that i will give a great treatment with the language problem. I tried to find a solution with looking for the best method for the lesson. Fortunately, i brought Indonesian hat like a peci, sundanese hat, and balinese hat. It could be helpfull for the lesson in the class. . I thought i found a good method to solve a language problem: more pictures, videos, practice, and fun games. I tried to find a basic Indonesian culture that will representation of all Indonesian with the diversity inside. Simple things like manners, traditional dance, favourite sports. . Another problem is about Thai culture. I dont know much about thai culture. I dont want to gave a wrong information about thai culture. and i guess the students will know better than me. So, i asked to Kru Pim to sent me any references about Thai culture. and he sent me a picture of thai culture, but i still dont have any idea how to explain it to the students. and i thought i will ask the students to explain their cultures. and i prepared a google translate. . In the last, i want to play a fun games to the students. Its called talking stick. I will give a things to a students and ask them to give to their friend while the music played. And when the music stopped, a student who hold the item have to answer my question. . I hope the lesson plan will be success. On Thursday, we have a trip with students and teachers from Philiphines to some tourisity places in Chiang Rai. Fortunately, Chiang Rai is a tourism place, you can see tourist everywhere. Mrs. Sunny told us that we will go to Singha Park, White Temple, and watching crocodile show. The first trip was Singha Park. It was such a huge garden made by Singha Company, and you can look arround by shuttle tour and there was a tour guide to explained about Singha Park, but s(he) spoke Thai. The view was wonderful. The first top was tea plantation. we can took picture there. They have a traditional northern costume for farmers and i tried to wear it to looked as a native people. . After looking arround Singha Park, we went to the Wat Rong Kuhn or known with White Temple. The first impression when we saw white temple was beautiful. All white, and the detail was perfect. The last trip was watching crocodile show. Arround 20 minutes from white temple, we arrived at Chang Puak Camp Chiang Rai. We watched 2 people control the crocodile to open their mouth and put their hand into the crocodile mouth. and the sound effect always made us shocked. . Novita told us that she saw karen people behind the crocodile show arena.and yes, i saw them. I really want to meet them, because i am very corious about their community. I felt luck to can saw them directly. But, i thought i was not in the real place. They come from Myanmar 5 years ago, and come to the place like to 'show' themselves to the public. In my opinion, there's nothing different between crocodile show, elephant show, and karen long neck people on that place: as a tourism object. I felt lucky and sad to met them. But, it was amazing experience for me. And the last, we watched elephant show. They kissed me with the proboscis. They can draw a trees, they can played basketball, and they can do the thai massage.
. We went home with the amazing experiences for a day trip with students and teachers from Philiphines. Thanks Damrongratsongkroh School. My first week in Damrongratsongkroh School was for class observation. I have to observe the class before i start teaching in the next week.
. In this week, i have two teacher to observe. The first one is Teacher Pim. He is a Head of Social Studies Department. He teach Law subject in M.4. . He told me about his website. He made a website to create modern system. The website is for collect a student tasks, information about the material, social studies curriculum, and many things about the lessons. Then, he showed me about his module book for students, module for Law subject. . To be honest, i have no idea what they talked about. As i know, they talked about wills. But, the process of the lesson was nice. A teacher could gave a good atmosphere to learned, and sometimes he gave a refereshing to students such as showed a dancing video with asked a students to dance. And then, he used a classtools.com for auto spinner to choose a students answer the question. . The second one is Teacher Kai. She teach Governance. In this observation, i watched a students about their english skills. And the results is, not all students can speak english. It makes me thinkinking how to teach a students that they can’t speak english. Because i can’t speak thai. In every class observation, i always looking for a solution for that problem. Because, i will teach governance, and in governance subject, i need to speak more. Because teacher Kai also use the method speaking, with the power point. . But overall, my class observation was success because i found many things to solve before i teach. Damrongratsongkroh School, is used to be a school which was exclusively for girls called Bamrungkumaree in 1918 along with Samakkhiwitthayakhom School in one location. Praya Rachadetdamrong, the founder of the school decided to move the location of Bamrungkumaree to his palace in May 17, 1933. Then, in 1959, Praya Rattananakhet the reigning ruler of Chiangrai, changed the name from Bamrungkumaree to Damrongratsongkroh School. Nowadays, Damrongratsongkroh School opens to both girls & boys from Matthayomsuksa 1 to Matthayomsuksa 6. It is one of the extra largest schools in Chiangrai in the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 36, Office of the Basic Education Commitions, Ministry of Education. The vision of Damrongraatsongkroh School is to become the leaders in developing learners to be World Class Standard citizens focusing on building quality students with moral ethics and desirable characteristics based on the philosophy of sufficiency economy beyond the quality system management. And the goals of Damrongratsongkroh School are:
Damrongratsongkroh School has a Core Value to be learned. There are Discovery, Activeness, Morality, Relevancy, Organization, Nobleness, and Goodteam (DAMRONG). Damrong’s students, love their dignity, have good verbal interaction generosity and gorgeous gesture. In my experience in Damrong school, the students are really have a good attitude. They are always smiling to the teacher and gives a gentle gesture called “Wai”. . Matthayomsuksa means grade. In Damrongratsongkroh School, there are lower secondary school (M.1 – M.3) and upper secondary school (M.4 – M.6). They are included in Damrongratsongkroh School. The facilities in this school are very complete. There are a main field, basketball court, volleyball court, and takraw field. Damrongratsongkroh school has a huge canteen, library, and computer laboratorium. One thing that i saw a difference between Damrongratsongkroh School and Indonesian school is a teacher room. In Indonesia, there is only one teacher room in a school. All teacher are on the same room. In Damrongratsongkroh School, the teacher room are separated by the department. Department of social studies has their own room, department of math has their own room, and others.
. In upper secondary school, the students can choose the program such as english program, japanese program, france program, math and science program, and others. . In my opinion, this school has a strong desire to become a world class standard school. For examples, Damrongratsongkroh school has a cooperation program with one of the school in Philiphines. Philiphines teachers and students comes to Damrongratsongkroh School to learned education system in Damrong school. And on March, it’s time for Damrongratsongkroh School visit the Philiphines school for a week. . Then, this school has so many foreign teachers. There are from USA and Philiphines., Even though this school is not an international school. And also, receiving SEA Teacer participants is also one of their purpose to became a world class standard school. On Monday, January 29th 2018, that was our first day we go to school. The school introduced us to the student after Monday ceremony. They not just introduced us, but they also introduced teachers and students from Philiphines that will teach and study in Damrongratsongkroh School for two weeks. The ceremony was very special. A Director of the school gave us a flowers, and we have to speech in front of the students and teachers. At the moment, i have an opportunity to spoke in front of the students and teachers. I said thanks to the school, explain our purpose in this project, and suggest the students to ask anything about Indonesia to us because its time to sharing each others. . After ceremony, Mrs. Sunny introduced us to our mentor. My mentor is Mr. Pim. He is a head of Department of Social Studies. He teachs Law and Buddha. He carried me to the Department of Social Studies office and introduced to every social studies teachers. There are about 17 teachers teach Social Studies in Damrongratsongkroh School. Department of Social Studies has eight subject. There are Sociology, Geography, Economy, History, Buddha, ASEAN, Law, and Governance. Then, Mr. Pim took me to his class to observe the class. Actually, i didn’t understood about what they said because they spoke Thai. But, i asked a student about the topic of the lesson. And They talked about family law like wills after died. The students did the presentation in front of the class and audiences gave a question to presenter, and then the presenter gave a question to audience randomly by classtools.com. . We met a Philiphines teacher in the school. She is a teacher in Damrong School for about 2 years. We have a nice conversation with her. We talked about Indonesian, Philiphines, and Thailand. Mrs. Sunny came and gave us a Thai dishes to enjoy the conversation. They gave a table for me, and the Social Studies Teachers were very kind. . My first impression in my first day in the school was: Thai people are nice. After that, mrs. Sunny picked us up to the market to bought some food for dinner.
